Symbolism

A wristwatch is often an urgent reminder that time is running out for important decisions. It can also mean that a significant event is drawing near. I may be anxious about a long-anticipated happening.

A wristwatch is a tool that shapes the way its wearer experiences and perceives time. Watches can also serve as a fashion statement, a symbol of wealth, or a grim reminder of impending appointments throughout the up-and-coming day.

Boxing gloves indicate involvement in a some sort of conflict. Boxing gloves represents a need to prove oneself. Being in the mood to finally finish off a problem.

Granny, Stevie (me) and Aunt Elaine. One year before my Dad shook me unconscious (aka abusive head trauma) in this very house in Viola, Idaho, USA. Brownie camera photo by my Mom.

Inspired by the song, “Fighter,” this video has a talk-over introduction about how early childhood trauma experience turns us into creative problem-solving fighters.

The video’s musical intro has the song “Fighter” with vocal stripped so it’s just instrumental. Then it goes into what seems to be a male singer — but it’s actually Christina Aguilera singing but dropped an octave. It then finishes with a heavy-metal rendition of “Fighter” for the outro.

Creative? Intelligent? Traumatized. You’re a fighter.

Wear it.

The wristwatches are financial symbols of fighters who always feel they are running out of time and pacing the floor like caged animals. Compulsive behaviors. It’s a protective hyper-vigilant survival mode.

I don’t wear a wristwatch any more. I don’t wear a wallet or decorative jewelry. I don’t carry a heavy key chain loaded with keys. I’m free. Almost.

A wristwatch and keys for me represent slavery.

My subconscious mind is revealing deep clues. No fear. Be strong.

Dear abuser in the shadows: “You thought I’d forget. But I remember.”

Lyrics

Fighter
Well I thought I knew you, thinkin’ that you were true
Guess I, I couldn’t trust called your bluff time is up
‘Cause I’ve had enough
You were there by my side, always down for the ride
But your joy ride just came down in flames cause your greed sold me out in shame

After all of the stealing and cheating you probably think that
I hold resentment for you
But uh uh, oh no, you’re wrong
‘Cause if it wasn’t for all that you tried to do, I wouldn’t know
Just how capable I am to pull through
So I want to say thank you
Cause it

‘Cause it makes me that much stronger
Makes me work a little bit harder
It makes me that much wiser
So thanks for making me a fighter
Made me learn a little bit faster
Made my skin a little bit thicker
Makes me that much smarter
So thanks for making me a fighter

Never saw it coming, all of your backstabbing
Just so you could cash in on a good thing before I’d realize your game
I heard you’re goin’ round playin’, the victim now
But don’t even begin feeling I’m the one to blame
‘Cause you dug your own grave
After all of the fights and the lies cause you’re wanting to haunt me
But that won’t work anymore, no more,
It’s over
‘Cause if it wasn’t for all of your torture
I wouldn’t know how to be this way now and never back down
So I want to say thank you
Cause it

‘Cause it makes me that much stronger
Makes me work a little bit harder
It makes me that much wiser
So thanks for making me a fighter
Made me learn a little bit faster
Made my skin a little bit thicker
Makes me that much smarter
So thanks for making me a fighter

How could this man I thought I knew
Turn out to be unjust so cruel
Could only see the good in you
Pretended not to know the truth
You tried to hide your lies, disguise yourself
Through living in denial
But in the end you’ll see
You won’t stop me

I am a fighter and I
I ain’t goin’ stop
There is no turning back
I’ve had enough

‘Cause it makes me that much stronger
Makes me work a little bit harder
It makes me that much wiser
So thanks for making me a fighter
Made me learn a little bit faster
Made my skin a little bit thicker
Makes me that much smarter
So thanks for making me a fighter

You thought I would forget,
But I remember
‘Cause I remember
I remember
You thought I would forget,
But I remember
‘Cause I remember
I remember

‘Cause it makes me that much stronger
Makes me work a little bit harder
It makes me that much wiser
So thanks for making me a fighter
Made me learn a little bit faster
Made my skin a little bit thicker
Makes me that much smarter
So thanks for making me a fighter

Pie symbolizes the rewards of my hard work. But it also represents abandonment because of my mother’s suicide attempt. My dad cooked pot pies for Brad and me during her month institutionalized. She left me alone with a monster.

Landslide

Fleetwood Mac

I took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
‘Til the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changin’ ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life?
Mmm

Well, I’ve been ‘fraid of changin’
‘Cause I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I’m gettin’ older, too
Well, I’ve been ‘fraid of changin’
‘Cause I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I’m gettin’ older, too
I’m gettin’ older, too

Ah, take my love, take it down
Oh, climb a mountain and turn around
And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well, the landslide will bring it down
And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well, the landslide will bring it down
Oh, the landslide will bring it down

Stevie Nick’s commentary about Landslide

It was written in 1973 at a point where Lindsey and I had driven to Aspen for him to rehearse for two weeks with Don Everly. Lindsey was going to take Phil’s place. So they rehearsed and left, and I made a choice to stay in Aspen. I figured I’d stay there and one of my girlfriends was there. We stayed there for almost three months while Lindsey was on the road, and this is right after the Buckingham Nicks record had been dropped. And it was horrifying to Lindsey and I because we had a taste of the big time, we recorded in a big studio, we met famous people, we made what we consider to be a brilliant record and nobody liked it (laughs). I had been a waitress and a cleaning lady, and I didn’t mind any of this. I was perfectly delighted to work and support us so that Lindsey could produce and work and fix our songs and make our music.

But I had gotten to a point where it was like, “I’m not happy. I am tired. But I don’t know if we can do any better than this. If nobody likes this, then what are we going to do?”

So during that two months I made a decision to continue. “Landslide” was the decision. [Sings] “When you see my reflection in the snow-covered hills” – it’s the only time in my life that I’ve lived in the snow. But looking up at those Rocky Mountains and going, “Okay, we can do it. I’m sure we can do it.” In one of my journal entries, it says, “I took Lindsey and said, ‘We’re going to the top!'” And that’s what we did. Within a year, Mick Fleetwood called us, and we were in Fleetwood Mac making $800 a week apiece (laughs). Washing $100 bills through the laundry. It was hysterical. It was like we were rich overnight.
~Stevie Nicks, Performing Songwriter magazine, 2003

It’s about a father-daughter relationship.
~Stevie Nicks on how Landslide was written the night before her dad was operated on at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota in 1974, The Arizona Republic, June 7, 1998

I realized then that everything could tumble, and when you’re in Colorado, and you’re surrounded by these incredible mountains, you think avalanche. It meant the whole world could tumble around us and the landslide would bring you down. And a landslide in the snow is like, deadly. And when you’re in that kind of a snow-covered, surrounding place, you don’t just go out and yell, because the whole mountain could come down on you.

Landslide I wrote on the guitar, and it’s another one that I wrote in about five minutes. But see, when I’m really thinking about something ~ I mean when something’s really bothering me ~ again, the best thing that I can do is go to the music room, or to the office, where I can write. Because once I put it down and I can read it back, and I can think about what I’m saying, then it makes sense to me. When I’m just thinking it in my head, it’s going around and around, and I feel like a little child unable to make a real, substantial decision. And we were talking about our lives… the rest of our lives.
~Stevie Nicks, In the Studio with Red Beard, May 1992

Landslide I wrote in Aspen. Three months before I joined Fleetwood Mac, along with Rhiannon. And uh, that’s where the snow-covered hills come from. And I was definitely doing a whole lot of reflecting when I was up there. Lindsey was on the road with the Everly Brothers and I was very unhappy and very lonely. And trying to figure out why he was out with the Everly Brothers and I was in Aspen with $40 and my dog and my Toyota that went frozen the day we got there. And we thought he was going to make like lots of money. He didn’t.

He came back to Apsen and he was very angry with me ~ and he left me ~ took Ginnie the poodle and and the car and left me in Aspen the day that the Greyhound buses went on strike. I had a bus pass cause my dad was president of Greyhound, I had a bus pass, I could go anywhere. I said, ‘Fine, take the car and the dog, I have a bus pass.’ I had strep throat also. He drove away, I walk in on the radio it says ‘Greyhound Buses on strike all over the Unites States.’ I’m going, oh no, I’m stuck. So in order to get out of Colorado I had to call my parents and they unwillingly sent me a plane ticket because they didn’t understand what I was doing up there in the first place. So I follow him back to Los Angeles, that was like October, it was all around Halloween, two months later Fleetwood Mac called on New Years Eve.
~Stevie Nicks, The Source, 1981

The story of Landslide… everybody seems to think that I wrote this song about them. Everybody in my family, all my friends, everybody… and my Dad, my Dad did have something to do with it, but he absolutely thinks that he was the whole complete reason it was ever written. I guess it was about September 1974, I was home at my Dad and Mom’s house in Phoenix, and my father said, ‘you know, I think that maybe… you really put a lot of time into this [her singing career], maybe you should give this six more months, and if you want to go back to school, we’ll pay for it and uh, basically you can do whatever you want and we’ll pay for it ~ I have wonderful parents ~ and I went, ‘cool, I can do that.’

[Then] Lindsey and I went up to Aspen, and we went to somebody’s incredible house, and they had a piano, and I had my guitar with me, and I went into their living room, looking out over the incredible, like, Aspen skyway, and I wrote Landslide…three months later, Mick Fleetwood called. On New Year’s Eve, 1974, called and asked us to join Fleetwood Mac. So it was three months, I still had three more months to go to beat my six month goal that my dad gave me. So that’s what Landslide is about.
~Stevie Nicks, VH1 Storytellers, 1998

[On Jess Nicks’ comment that Landslide was meant to portray the relationship between a father and a child and that Stevie wrote the song because she was fearful of him dying] I was also trying to make some decisions. You know, If you see my reflection in the snow-covered hills…I was trying to figure out what I was going to do. I wasn’t making it big in the music business. I was confused. He told me I should give it about six months and I kind of agreed with him…
~Arizona Living Magazine, September 1983

[On her take of the Smashing Pumpkins version of Landslide] I was very honored to have Billy Corgan pick out that song on his own. There’s nothing more pleasing to a songwriter than [someone] doing one of their songs. It also led to me being friends with Billy Corgan, and the possibility that we’ll work together. Over this song, there’s been this incredible connection…he reached out.
~Yahoo Chat with Stevie Nicks, April 28, 1998

Don’t Cry

5:20 minutes

Don’t Cry, the title, is from lyrics in the song Carry on Wayward Son by Kansas. I suspect me selecting this poem is about feelings of childhood abandonment.

Carry On Wayward Son was written by Kerry Livgreen. Kerry Allen Livgren (born September 18, 1949) is an American musician and brilliant songwriter. He’s best known as one of the founding members and primary songwriters for the 1970s progressive rock band Kansas. He and his band played at my high school in Manhattan Kansas and they were mentors for our band, FrostFire. We played several of their songs in our music sets.

After three albums in two years failed to provide them with a hit single, Kansas was under pressure from Kirshner and CBS records to write a hit. Livgren and the band realized it was their last chance. Due to Walsh experiencing writer’s block, Livgren wrote or co-wrote all the songs for the group’s fourth album, Leftoverture. On the last day of rehearsal for the new album, Livgren brought the band one more song, which they performed once before heading to the studio. The song, “Carry On Wayward Son“, became Kansas’ first hit, reaching No. 11.

I created the soundtrack in the following way: Levi sent me a link to the dissonant reimagined cover of the Kansas song. I loved it. I then ran it through a beat meter and found it was 120 beats per minute. I then downloaded and converted the original Kansas YouTube video to an MP4 format. It was 99 bpm. Listening to them both, I realized the reimagined 120 bpm song measurement must be a double count of the rhythm and really around 60 beats per minute. I tried layering the music on top of each other in OpenShot video editor. That produced cacophonous noise.

I then decided to slow down the tempo of the original song using Audacity to 60 bpm. (Audacity is free and open-source digital audio editor and recording application software). It still didn’t layer well on different tracks in OpenShot. Amazingly, I liked the sound but missed the original acapella vocal introduction. So I kept that intro section the same tempo of 99 bpm. For whatever reason, this switch midstream – combined with the storm video – worked for me.

Then I began collecting images and video clips. So the sound track modification came first then the image selection. It’s a dark theme.

Symbolism

I’m still working on it. But it’s about childhood trauma. I suspect abandonment after my mom’s suicide attempt when I was 7 years old. Dad probably left me and Brad at home alone while he took unconscious Mom to the hospital. I thought she was dead. No idea.  No memory. No witnesses. Nothing was ever said about it and I have trauma amnesia. More therapy for me.

Carry on Wayward Son

Kansas

Carry on my wayward son
For there’ll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don’t you cry no more

Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond the illusion
I was soaring ever higher, but I flew too high
Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I’m dreamin’, I can hear them say

Carry on my wayward son
For there’ll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don’t you cry no more

Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man, it surely means that I don’t know
On a stormy sea of moving emotion
Tossed about I’m like a ship on the ocean
I set a course for winds of fortune, but I hear the voices say

Carry on my wayward son
For there’ll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don’t you cry no more

Carry on, you will always remember
Carry on, nothing equals the splendor
Now your life’s no longer empty
Surely heaven waits for you

Carry on my wayward son
For there’ll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don’t you cry no more

Daddy

5:32 minutes

I reviewed 45 covers of “I’m on Fire” the original song produced by Bruce Springsteen (1985). All kinds of genres. Good and bad. But some were bad enough to not even make the 45-keeper pile. I chose one male acoustic guitar cover with strings, one female piano cover, and a piano instrumental outro. I avoided the more famous artist’s covers. Looking for unique sounds.

The song is supposed to be about sexual desire. But in this case it is about an emotional pain or angst inside that torments and can’t be extinguished.

In my opinion, crap is still locked inside my head. I can’t get it out because it’s locked in. I don’t know what it is.

But I felt abandoned all alone. What did he do to me? He may have done nothing but cook meat pies. But for the first time in my life, my mother was gone from my life for a month — and I was left alone with a sadistic monster.

LYRICS I’m On Fire

Hey little girl, is your daddy home?
Did he go away and leave you all alone? Mhmm
I got a bad desire
Oh, I’m on fire

Tell me now baby is he good to you
And can he do to you the things that I do? Oh no
I can take you higher
Oh, I’m on fire

Sometimes it’s like someone took a knife baby
Edgy and dull and cut a six inch valley
Through the middle of my skull

At night I wake up with the sheets soaking wet
And a freight train running through the middle of my head
Only you, can cool my desire

Oh, I’m on fire
Oh, I’m on fire
Oh, I’m on fire

Lyrics: Aint no grave

Oh, shame is a prison as cruel as a grave
Shame is a robber and he’s come to take my name
Oh, love is my redeemer
Lifting me up from the ground
Love is the power when my freedom song is found
There ain’t no grave
Gonna hold my body down
There ain’t no grave
Gonna hold my body down

When I hear that trumpet sound
I’m gonna rise up outta the ground
There ain’t no grave
Gonna hold my body down
Oh, oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh, oh oh oh oh oh oh

Oh, fear is a liar with a smooth and velvet tongue
Fear is a tyrant
He’s always telling me to run
Oh, love is a resurrection and love is a trumpet sound
Love is my weapon
I’m gonna take my giants down

There ain’t no grave
Gonna hold my body down
There ain’t no grave
Gonna hold my body down
And when I hear that trumpet sound
I’m gonna rise up outta the ground
There ain’t no grave
Gonna hold my body down

Oh, there was a battle
A war between death and life
And there on a tree
The Lamb of God was crucified
And He went on down to hell
He took back every key
He rose up as a lion and He set all captives free

There ain’t no grave
Could hold His body down
There ain’t no grave
Could hold His body down
When He heard the trumpet sound
He rose up outta the ground
There ain’t no grave
Could hold His body down
There ain’t no grave
Could hold His body down
There ain’t no grave
Could hold my body down
There ain’t no grave
Could hold my body down

Oh, if you walked out of the grave, I’m walking too
If you walked out of the grave, I’m walking too
If you walked out of the grave, I’m walking too
If you walked out of the grave, I’m walking too
If you walked out of the grave, I’m walking too
If you walked out of the grave, I’m walking too
Gonna sing about it, yeah
If you walked out of the grave, I’m walking too
I’m gonna meet Jesus
If you walked out of the grave, I’m walking too
Oh, if you walked out of the grave, I’m walking too
If you walked out of the grave, I’m walking too
If you walked out of the grave, I’m walking too
If you walked out of the grave, I’m walking too

There ain’t no grave
Gonna hold my body down
There ain’t no grave
Gonna hold my body down
And when I hear that trumpet sound
I’m gonna rise up outta the ground
There ain’t no grave
Gonna hold my body down
There ain’t no grave
Gonna hold my body down
There ain’t no grave
Gonna hold my body down

Well, meet me mother and father, meet me down the river road
And momma you know that I’ll be there when I check in my load
Ain’t no grave can hold my body down
There ain’t no grave can hold my body down
There ain’t no grave can hold my body down

Crying Rain

Symbolism

Crying: No one hearing or responding to my crying. It represents my helplessness, difficulty, and frustration trying to communicate with others. I feel my words are falling on deaf ears. My suppressed hurt or trauma is coming to the surface.

Rain: Seeing and hearing rain falling symbolizes forgiveness and grace. Falling rain is also a metaphor for tears, crying and sadness.

Crying

I was alright for a while, I could smile for a while
Then I saw you last night, you held my hand so tight
When you stopped to say, “Hello”
You wished me well, you couldn’t tell
That I’d been crying over you
Crying over you then you said, “So long”
Left me standing all alone
Alone and crying,
Crying, crying, crying
It’s hard to understand
That the touch of your hand
Can start me crying
I thought that I was over you
But it’s true, so true
I love you even more than I did before
But darling what can I do?
For you don’t love me and I’ll always be
Crying over you
Crying over you
Yes, now you’re gone
And from this moment on
I’ll be crying, crying, crying, crying,
Crying, crying, over you

Have You Ever Seen the Rain

Someone told me long ago
There’s a calm before the storm
I know, it’s been comin’ for some time

When it’s over, so they say
It will rain a sunny day
I know, shinin’ down like water

I wanna know, have you ever seen the rain?
I wanna know, have you ever seen the rain
Comin’ down on a sunny day?

Yesterday and days before
Sun is cold and rain is hard
I know, been that way for all my time

And forever, on it goes
Through the circle, fast and slow
I know, it can’t stop, I wonder

I wanna know, have you ever seen the rain?
I wanna know, have you ever seen the rain
Comin’ down on a sunny day?

Yeah

I wanna know, have you ever seen the rain?
I wanna know, have you ever seen the rain
Comin’ down on a sunny day?

Lyrics

An old cowboy went riding out one dark and windy day
Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way
When all at once a mighty herd of red eyed cows he saw
A-plowing through the ragged sky and up the cloudy draw
Their brands were still on fire and their hooves were made of steel
Their horns were black and shiny and their hot breath he could feel
A bolt of fear went through him as they thundered through the sky
For he saw the riders coming hard and he heard their mournful cry
Yippie yi ooh
Yippie yi yay
Ghost riders in the sky

Their faces gaunt, their eyes were blurred, their shirts all soaked with sweat
He’s riding hard to catch that herd, but he ain’t caught ’em yet
‘Cause they’ve got to ride forever on that range up in the sky
On horses snorting fire
As they ride on hear their cry
As the riders loped on by him he heard one call his name
If you want to save your soul from hell a-riding on our range
Then cowboy change your ways today or with us you will ride
Trying to catch the devil’s herd, across these endless skies
Yippie yi ooh
Yippie yi yay

It is also indicative of destructive feelings, “stinging” remarks, bitter words and/or negative thoughts being expressed by or aimed against you. The scorpion is also a symbol of death and rebirth.

A scorpion is a symbol of death and pain. That is why in a dream it may symbolize some painful things and situations in your life. Scorpions in dreams are also a symbol of vengeance and betrayal. Sometimes scorpions signify backstabbing that you are experiencing or might experience from someone.

The meaning of the scorpion represents the need for you let go of the old to make room for something new.

Scorpions، To dream of a scorpion represents the expectation for pain or hardship. A lingering possibility for bad news or an altercation.

Scorpion – The scorpion is a symbol of fear and anxiety in your life. If something at work or in your everyday life is scaring you or you are nervous that something bad is going to happen to you because of an event that you will be attending, the scorpion is a manifestation of that fear. Regardless of your fear or anxiety, the scorpion isn’t necessarily a symbol of danger. Despite this, however, the scorpion can be a symbol of warning if you are actually stung by the scorpion in your dream.

Your dreams can bring into reality the symbol of the scorpion to warn you of something that is going to stand in your way in the near future. The scorpion is also a symbol of a latent poison that is slowly consuming you.

highly sensitive and defensive

scorpion represents the need for you let go of the old to make room for something new. This is the sign that you are waiting for to wake up and get out of your situation that’s causing you pain, bitterness, and disappointment.

To “jumpstart” a mode of transport is focused on seeing things for what they are. A car battery represents your energy level and ability to carry out work, projects, or function in.

Sharp Dressed Man
Building on clean and fitted clothes, the next level of dressing sharp is to be aware of personal style. The way of mastering this awareness is to disregard mainstream trends in fashion.
