Dark Eyes 2

6:13 minutes

STORY by Levi Teare

Dark eyes.

That’s all I remembered of the woman.

I wasn’t sure if it was her

until our eyes met.

Those enigmatic coffee brown eyes drew me in.

I had seen her once before in a cosmic moment, I can’t remember where.

No words were spoken, and now again,

our eyes were locked in a room full of people.

She kept looking, never moving her gaze.

Not for a second.

I knew I had to move.

The fates were providing me a chance that I would not- could not ignore.

My feet were moving before I could talk myself out of it.

I split the crowd like a surfer through waves and washed up on that dreamy shore.

Now we stood in front of one another, no words coming to either of us.

That cosmic feeling returned as if the stars aligned on that very spot.

I didn’t sweat or shift my weight, awkwardly trying to force words out.

I was in blissful silence.

The woman looked up at me, her soft dark features would have been expressionless.

But those eyes, those mysterious, deep eyes sparkled with wonder.

She held up a hand, still making eye contact.

I took it, her skin was warm and soft.

I opened my mouth to speak.

Then we were moving.

The woman guided me gently through the crowd.

Out of stone archways and into the still night air.

The stars fell like snow around us.

An enormous moon held up the sky, illuminating our features.

The woman turned to me once more, her straight nose, sharp cheekbones, and soft angelic lips took my breath in the moonlight.

I know you. She says quietly. Stars catching in her long eyelashes.

Her voice took away any chill from the night air.

You do. And I know you. I said hoarsely.

The stars were sticking in her hair and to her clothes.

I knew they must be on mine too.

Tell me my name. She whispered.

Daphne, like the flower.

And yours is Paris, She laid a hand on my cheek.

Your hair matches your eyes.

Blond?

Beautiful.

My heart smiled.

I had never been called handsome – or beautiful.

I felt recognized.

You know me. I said. And you already know your worth. But you are breathtaking.

She smiled revealing dimples.

I know you and you know my worth too.

I do. You are valued beyond riches and kingdoms, my heart bleeds for you.

Do you know your worth? Daphne asked.

Show me.

She stretched out her hand and caught the falling stars.

They fall for you. She said. They fall to kneel at your feet. You are a king.

The stars don’t fall for me. Daphne. I said in a small voice.

She walked me to the far side of the stone courtyard through crumbling archways.

She pointed to the sky.

The moonlight travels thousands of miles just to touch your face.

I’m just one in hundreds of people that the moonlight touches. I dismissed the thought.

Daphne sighed.

You are the only one I’m with tonight. Paris.

If the stars don’t fall for you, and the moon doesn’t shine for you. Then I am.

Can’t Take My Eyes Off You
Frankie Valli

[Verse 1]
You’re just too good to be true
Can’t take my eyes off of you
You’d be like Heaven to touch
I wanna hold you so much
At long last love has arrived
And I thank God I’m alive
You’re just too good to be true
Can’t take my eyes off you

[Verse 2]
Pardon the way that I stare
There’s nothing else to compare
The sight of you leaves me weak
There are no words left to speak
But if you feel like I feel
Please let me know that it’s real
You’re just too good to be true
Can’t take my eyes off you

[Chorus]
I love you, baby, and if it’s quite alright
I need you, baby, to warm the lonely night
I love you, baby, trust in me when I say:
Oh, pretty baby, don’t bring me down, I pray
Oh, pretty baby, now that I found you, stay
And let me love you, baby, let me love you

[Verse 3]
You’re just too good to be true
Can’t take my eyes off you
You’d be like Heaven to touch
I wanna hold you so much
At long last love has arrived
And I thank God I’m alive
You’re just too good to be true
Can’t take my eyes off you

Sabrina Carpenter – Eyes Wide Open
Lyrics
La di da da da na
Yeah
Everybody loves to tell me I was born an old soul
Better keep my eyes wide open
There’s so much that I don’t know
Just another hotel room
Never felt so all alone
I think about my granddad’s eyes,
And they always send me home
I can almost hear him now
Gotta make him proud
I keep my eyes wide open
Bless this ground, unbroken
I’m about to make my way
Heaven help me keep my faith
And my eyes wide open
La
Whoa
I can’t see two steps ahead of me,
When the fog comes rollin’ in
I never thought I’d miss the rain
Lord knows how long it’s been
This dream burns inside of me,
And I can’t just let it go
There’s still so much that I don’t know
I keep my eyes wide open
Bless this ground, unbroken
I’m about to make my way
Heaven help me keep my faith
And my eyes wide open, yeah
All I have is just this moment
And I don’t want to miss a second
‘Cause it could all be gone in an instant
Yeah, in an instant
I keep my eyes wide open
Bless this ground, unbroken
I’m about to make my way
Heaven help me keep my faith
And my eyes wide open
I’m about to make my way
Heaven help me keep my faith
My eyes wide open
Keep my eyes wide open

Julia Michaels

I’m jealous, I’m overzealous
When I’m down, I get real down
When I’m high, I don’t come down
I get angry, baby, believe me
I could love you just like that
And I could leave you just as fast

But you don’t judge me
‘Cause if you did, baby, I would judge you too
No, you don’t judge me
‘Cause if you did, baby, I would judge you too

‘Cause I got issues
But you got ’em too
So give ’em all to me
And I’ll give mine to you
Bask in the glory
Of all our problems
‘Cause we got the kind of love
It takes to solve ’em

Yeah, I got issues
And one of them is how bad I need you

You do shit on purpose
You get mad and you break things
Feel bad, try to fix things
But you’re perfect
Poorly wired circuit
And got hands like an ocean
Push you out, pull you back in

‘Cause you don’t judge me
‘Cause if you did, baby, I would judge you too
No, you don’t judge me
‘Cause you see it from the same point of view

‘Cause I got issues
But you got ’em too
So give ’em all to me
And I’ll give mine to you
Bask in the glory
Of all our problems
‘Cause we got the kind of love
It takes to solve ’em

Yeah, I got issues
And one of them is how bad I need you

(I got issues, you got ’em too)
And one of them is how bad I need you
(I got issues, you got ’em too)

‘Cause I got issues
(I got)
But you got ’em too
So give ’em all to me
(You got ’em too)
And I’ll give mine to you
Bask in the glory
(I got issues)
Of all our problems
‘Cause we got the kind of love
(You got ’em too)
It takes to solve ’em

Yeah, I got issues (I got)
And one of them is how bad I need you (You got ’em too)
Yeah, I got issues (I got issues)
And one of them is how bad I need you (You got ’em too)
Yeah, I got issues (I got)

Whispered

2:04 minutes

It seemed like a miracle that he was there, his arms still waiting for me. He reached out to me, and my heart thumped unsteadily.

“Welcome back,” he murmured, taking me into his arms.

He rocked me for a while in silence, until I noticed that his clothes were changed, his hair smooth.

“You left?” I accused, touching the collar of his fresh shirt.

“I could hardly leave in the clothes I came in — what would the neighbors think?”

I pouted.

“You were very deeply asleep; I didn’t miss anything.”

His eyes gleamed. “The talking came earlier.”

I groaned. “What did you hear?”

His gold eyes grew very soft. “You said you loved me.”

“You knew that already,” I reminded him, ducking my head.

“It was nice to hear, just the same.”

I hid my face against his shoulder.

“I love you,” I whispered.

“Does Anybody Hear Her”

by Casting Crowns

She is running
A hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction
She is trying
But the canyon’s ever widening
In the depths of her cold heart
So she sets out on another misadventure just to find
She’s another two years older
And she’s three more steps behind

Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?
Or does anybody even know she’s going down today
Under the shadow of our steeple
With all the lost and lonely people
Searching for the hope that’s tucked away in you and me
Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?

She is yearning
For shelter and affection
That she never found at home
She is searching
For a hero to ride in
To ride in and save the day
And in walks her Prince Charming
And he knows just what to say
Momentary lapse of reason
And she gives herself away

Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?
Or does anybody even know she’s going down today
Under the shadow of our steeple
With all the lost and lonely people
Searching for the hope that’s tucked away in you and me
Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?

If judgement looms under every steeple
If lofty glances from lofty people
Can’t see past her scarlet letter
And we never even met her
Never even met her
(Never Even Met her)

Does anybody hear her? Does anybody see?
Or does anybody even know she’s going down today
Under the shadow of our steeple
With all the lost and lonely people
Searching for the hope that’s tucked away in you and me

Does anybody hear her? Does anybody see?
Does anybody even know she’s going down today
Under the shadow of our steeple
With all the lost and lonely people
Searching for the hope that’s tucked away in you and me
Does anybody hear her? Does anybody see?

He is running
A hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction

I do some weird things with recorded music creating sound tracks.

For example, on “Children” I used three different pieces of music.

The main piece of music has instrumental with it and angelic voices of women. It is a cover by Sandra Turley. It’s 118 BPM and in C major. I changed that to 129 bpm to match the G major Three Dog Night version of “Prayer for the Children.” The piece that is overlaid and causes the most dissonance with the Tabernacle Choirs version in C major and 118 bpm. I change the bpm to 129 to match Three Dog Night.

So I can get all the beats per minute to match just fine or close enough.

I had some other covers but they were in minor keys. So I didn’t use them.

Audacity allows you to change bpm and key.

I measured the clips with an online tool: https://tunebat.com/Analyzer

But when I open each file in Audacity, it never matches the same reading. So I count the steps difference and relatively increase or decrease the pitch. It never matches. A guessing game.

I would have liked to have gotten all these into C major like the main vocal part.

Prayer Of The Children

by Kurt Bestor

Can you hear the prayer of the children
On bended knee, in the shadow of an unknown room?
Empty eyes, with no more tears to cry
Turning heavenward, toward the light

Crying, “Jesus, help me
To see the morning light of one more day;
But if I should die before I wake
I pray my soul to take.”

Can you feel the heart of the children
Aching for home, for something of their very own?
Reaching hands, with nothing to hold on to
But hope for a better day, a better day

Crying, “Jesus, help me
To feel the love again in my own land;
But if unknown roads lead away from home
Give me loving arms, away from harm.”

Can you hear the voice of the children
Softly pleading for silence in a shattered world?
Angry guns preach a gospel full of hate
Blood of the innocent on their hands

Crying, “Jesus, help me
To feel the sun again upon my face;
For when darkness clears I know you’re near
Bringing peace again.”

Last Rocket

7:24 Minutes
This poem is about fear of abandonment.

Male – he is a water driller (cowboy-type, reluctant hero). Feels slight insecure about his masculinity. Female – she is a confident trained military soldier. He is attracted to her. She feigns no attraction to him. Contempt. They are being evacuated from a cooked planet. It’s dying as it’s sucked into the closest star. The sabotaged last rocket explodes and crashes to the planet surface in a barren zone. The air is too hot and poisonous to breathe. They’re in spacesuits and communicate via radio.

Thought I’d share this conversation with Ed Jenkins who did the male voiceover for “Longday”:

Ed Jenkins
Mar 19, 6:15 AM

Oh wow, that sounds amazing! Whoever you got to voice Kahira really puts me to shame.

Steve’s reply:

Female voiceover is Chloe Wigmore: Fiver talent because of Covid. I’ll be improving the visuals and some sound effects. So it will go through another iteration. And your voice is perfect for what we’re doing. Don’t compare. It will only bring you unhappiness and dissatisfaction. Of course, anxiety can be a great motivator.

Never use Chloe as your benchmark. Just look and see if you improved your own journey. When you see someone at the top of the ladder, you know they didn’t fall there.

The original 2017 short story “Last Planet from Planet Longday” is a 45-minute read. I took one scene as an excerpt – the one you just made. It was the scene with the most interesting dialog. It’s about 4 minutes. Visually boring.

But the script was lost. I had a transcript made. That took one day with Fiver talent in India. I built an MP3 as reference for pronunciation of fabricated names and places. The synthetic voices are Amazon Polly. That probably cost 15 cents.

“Last Rocket from Planet Longday” is a sci-fi conversation between a marooned man and woman. In reality, I think they’re two of my internal voices. Self-talk.

Longday was my first video attempt and so dismal my son Levi and brother Brad (both creatives) gave it a thumbs down. I didn’t do another video for an entire year. It was long and I used male and female synthetic voice for the voice track. I had no money for voice talent at the time.

I decided I’d adopt the mantra “Embrace Mediocrity.” And I started producing one “mediocre” video per week. This version of “Longday” is my 129th video.

Jade the poetess said: “I love the rocket video. The voiceovers are amazing.”

STORY

Male Speaker: Hi, Thomas wake up. Can you hear me?

Female Speaker: Oh, hey. What’s happening?

Male Speaker: We’ve crashed. Everyone’s dead. But you and I and two unlucky cargo robots. We survived. You hearing me?

Female Speaker: My communication’s fine. Where are we?

Male Speaker: No clue. Surface of Longday – but I couldn’t tell you where. What’s up with the red flashing light on your suit?

Female Speaker: I must have sat closest to the explosive.

Male Speaker: Radiation?

Female Speaker: Seems like it. We weren’t leaving this floating rock — not alive anyway. Sabotage.

Male Speaker: Four of my friends are dead. You and I may not make it. Who’d do something so – sinister – and why?

Female Speaker: No time to explain. They’re looking for wreckage – and any survivors.

Male Speaker: You mean whoever they are, will hunt us and kill us. Because there’s something we’re not supposed to know?

Female Speaker: You’re smarter than you look. I don’t know everything – yet. But anyone who knows the truth about this is gone.

Male Speaker: You mean gone –- as in – dead?

Female Speaker: I think so.

Male Speaker: What’s your role in this conspiracy?

Female Speaker: Remember that hole in my suit, no accident. I found out too much. As for your friends, I’m sorry.

Male Speaker: Sorry? You might have warned us. You suspected danger.

Female Speaker: I didn’t know they’d crash the rocket, but it makes sense now.

Male Speaker: Sister, I’m a low-class water driller, I’m no warrior.

Female Speaker: The only way getting off this planet is fight or die.

Male Speaker: Okay, I’ll think about it. But listen, you’re the first woman friend I’ve had for over three years. Can you at least tell me your first name so I don’t have to call you Thomas?

Female Speaker: Thomas bothers you?

Male Speaker: Well, sort of. Not a man’s name.

Female Speaker: Not a man’s name?

Male Speaker: I’d rather not think of you as male.

Female Speaker: Male, very well. My name’s Kahira – an Irish warrior name for strong women –- but not women friends. Get it? That’s why they call me Thomas.

Male Speaker: Kahira? Nice name. It’s unique.

Female Speaker: Fine. But knowing my name doesn’t make me your woman friend. I don’t care if it’s five years.

Male Speaker: Right, been three years. So what do you propose?

Female Speaker: There’s an entrance, we’ve got to get there. It will take us below the surface.

Male Speaker: Is it occupied?

Female Speaker: We’ll find out.

Male Speaker: Kahira?

Female Speaker: What?

Male Speaker: Practicing your name.

Female Speaker: You’re a desperate idiot.

Male Speaker: My bad. We can travel inside the robots while we sleep — but they’ll need planetary coordinates. You got anything? Here’s how you get inside these robots.

Female Speaker: I know that. I’ve had survival training.

Male Speaker: Okay. Once inside, recharge your suit through this cable.

Female Speaker: Right.

Male Speaker: Oh. You know that also. Do you know how to load the planetary coordinates to get us to this entrance?

Female Speaker: I’m no fool.

Male Speaker: Okay, fine. Show me you know this stuff by doing it right now — please. One last thing, here’s a flare gun. If we get separated, use it to identify your location. Sorry, doubting your abilities.

Female Speaker: You’re forgiven. We better get moving.

Male Speaker: How long do you estimate it’ll take?

Female Speaker: Hours most likely. I recommend getting some sleep.

Male Speaker: Can we talk?

Female Speaker: No, sleep.

Male Speaker: Kahira, your communication on? Kahira are you there? Hello, hello?

Hello?

This poem is dedicated to Julie Hadley.

i LOVE “fallible” the music is perfect, your voice with the feminine voice is really great and flows amazing! “the solution… run, run until you ache in your side, and then laugh at the fright that made you run” that line hit me hard. i want to get that as my next tattoo.

i resonated with it, because something in me tells me to run when i’m afraid but something in me says dare them to try harder.

so many times have i looked into sadistic empty eyes and laughed with a mouth full of blood, taunting him, “if your going to hit me, hit me harder. because hesitation is a dead mans game” almost wishing he would have the courage to end my suffering, but he was never so kind, or maybe he just wasn’t brave enough. “laugh at the fright that made you run” that was powerful. that was timeless. my soul connected to those words. thank you for being a genius.

I replied:

Your words are encouraging.

“Fallible” was made for two people in particular. It helps to have an imaginary audience when building something like that. You and me. And anyone like us.

I’m glad you think I’m a genius. It only counts when you say it. Because it takes one to know one.

GONE TO TEXAS

In 1830, William Dewees wrote to a friend, “It would amuse you very much could you hear the manner in which people in this new country (Texas) address each other. It is nothing uncommon for us to inquire of a man why he ran away from the States! But few persons feel insulted by such a question. They generally answer for some crime or other which they have committed; if they deny having committed any crime, and say they did not run away, they are generally looked upon rather suspiciously.”

When Southerners began leaving their homes, many would simply scrawl “GTT” with chalk on their cabin doors or fence posts — for “Gone To Texas.” In time, GTT became shorthand for “at outs with the law.” Frederick Law Olmsted wrote that residents of other states “appended the initials to the name of every rascal who skipped out.” In 1884 Thomas Hughes observed, “When we want to say that it is all up with some fellow, we just say, ‘G.T.T.’ as you’d say, ‘gone to the devil,’ or ‘gone to the dogs.’ ”

GONE TO TEXAS

Over yonder Skinny Elijah

should oughta heard him play

rockin’ in the tool house

Hurricane Cowboy

y’all Gone to Texas

playin’ like there’s no tomorrow

solid rhythm so fine

y’all Gone to Texas

Behind the wranglin’ rocker

plumb pushin’ upbeat

reckless riff rockin’

Gone to Texas

playin’ like there’s no tomorrow

fixin’ to be a legend

might could change the world

Hear what I say

Gone to Texas

Gone to Texas

playin’ like there’s no tomorrow

Gone to Texas

Gone to Texas

over yonder Skinny Elijah

should oughta heard him play

rockin’ in the tool house

Hurricane Cowboy

playin’ like there’s no tomorrow

Y’all Gone to Texas

Y’all Gone to Texas

Y’all Gone to Texas

playin’ like there’s no tomorrow
