Mustang Song

4:03 minutes

MUSTANG SONG
for redheads

thundering, billowing
racing cloud of dust
shrouds pounding hooves.
the noon sun looks down
on earth’s wild horses.
parched, thirsty throats,
yet, the beasts race on.

what do they run from?
what do they seek?
or do they just run to run?
manes and tails tossing recklessly
in self-made breeze,
sweat rivulets coursing down
strong, lean backs,
and yet, they run.

how I yearn to be
an untamed mustang.
see me run.
tossing off the fastest,
breaking into the lead.
I breathe no one’s dust.
clear air fills my lungs,
adrenaline powers my limbs
as I race toward freedom.
I’m flying on the earth
a bird without wings.

the hot, pungent sage
stings my nostrils.
my unshod hooves
dance to a song
unheard by man.

if you could hear it,
the mustang song,
could you feel it?
could you breathe it?
would you dance,
unshod in the sand?
would the mustang song
pulse through your veins?
could you answer it’s call?

thundering, billowing
racing, cloud of dust
shrouds pounding hooves.
the noon sun looks down
on earth’s wild horses.
parched, thirsty throats,
yet, the beasts race on.

“And I don’t want the world to see me (introversion – solitude)
‘Cause I don’t think that they’d understand (strangeness – poet)
When everything’s made to be broken (loneliness – abandonment)
I just want you to know who I am (wishful – hopeful)”

Have you ever gone to a county fair –or a competition – where everyone was given the same prize — a blue ribbon. I have. It was no fun. Everyone felt cheated in the name of fairness. Being “chosen” isn’t about being fair. It’s about being favored. Like Joseph of Egypt — or John the Beloved. They deserved God’s recognition. You’re one of God’s beloved.

Empaths feels deeply other’s emotions. It’s part of having the gift of the discerning of spirits. But it isn’t the only way a person can have this gift. Another way is social awareness.

Some people hurt more for others. Those are the empaths. They suffer from Compassion Fatigue often. It’s something military chaplains suffer, too. We feel other people’s pain. It can be draining.

When I look into people’s hearts, I see their potential. For evil or good. This is a great blessing and a curse.

Sometimes when I “see” your heart and mind — and mention you are special, you get teary-eyed. I see great promise. It makes me smile. It makes me feel joy. It’s stunning. Is it the power of God? Or a kinship? I wonder if, at that moment, I remind you of someone you miss.

Your kind spirit always brighten my day. And I’m supposed to let you know, I’m acting as an angel and delivering this happy message. Be reassured you are God’s chosen. I don’t know God’s purpose. But perhaps for your future courage to keep going when times are tough.

I see you.

I see you.

And I’d give up forever to touch you
‘Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You’re the closest to heaven that I’ll ever be
And I don’t wanna go home right now

And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
And sooner or later, it’s over
I just don’t wanna miss you tonight

And I don’t want the world to see me
‘Cause I don’t think that they’d understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And you can’t fight the tears that ain’t coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah, you bleed just to know you’re alive

And I don’t want the world to see me
‘Cause I don’t think that they’d understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And I don’t want the world to see me
‘Cause I don’t think that they’d understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And I don’t want the world to see me
‘Cause I don’t think that they’d understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
